A special community wide Memorial Day tribute to veterans will be conducted on the downtown plaza. The event will get underway at 10:45 a.m. Monday, May 31. Members of Mount Vernon Boy Scout Troop 271 will conduct the ceremonial raising of the flag. Members of the American Legion Post 243 Ladies Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3992 Ladies Auxiliary will place wreaths at monuments for local veterans. Bert Edmondson, a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the U. S. Army, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Living veterans as well as the family and friends of those veterans who are deceased will be special guests at the ceremony. All interested persons are invited to bring their lawn chairs and participate in the ceremony.
