James V. Smith filed Thursday, Aug. 19 as a write-in candidate for the office of Franklin County Commissioner of Pct. 4 in the General Election. He is challenging two-term incumbent Sam Young (R), who until now was unopposed for the seat. “I was sought out by a group of concerned citizens from that precinct [Pct. 4],” Mr. Smith stated.  “I had not considered running for public office until being approached.” See the Aug. 19 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for more information.
