The City of Mount Vernon was recognized as an original “Texas Treasure” with the presentation of the First Lady’s Texas Treasures Award in ceremonies in Austin on Thursday, Feb. 12.
Mount Vernon was one of three cities receiving the inaugural award. Lillie Bush-Reeves, Nathan Reves, George Wims, Pat Oertel, Garry Romines, Teresia Wims, B. F. Hicks, Iris Baumgardner, Mark Miller, J. D. Baumgarder, Lee Elliott, and Ute Miller traveled to Austin to receive the award. See the Feb. 19 edition of the Optic-Herald for all the details.
