Support letters needed as Legislature looks to cut funds

Print

Due to the recent proposed cuts in state funding for libraries, the staff, members of the board and Friends of the Library organizations are gathering letters of support for the library program.
“We would like to ask our patrons to write letters telling “Why I love my library,” Lisa Lawrence, library coordinator, explained. “I will be going to Austin Wednesday, Feb., 16 for Library Legislation Day and would like to take as many [of the letters] as I can with me.”
The deadline to submit letters will be Valentine’s Day, Monday, Feb.14th.  Anyone can write their state representatives  anytime expressing support for libraries.
The Texas Library Association has issued information about proposed cuts to the states’ support of libraries in the upcoming Legislative session for 2012-13. For more details on the movement, see the Jan. 27 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
