Winnsboro Band Director Paul Carter Bramlett entered guilty pleas in two child sex crime cases. The pleadings were made before Eighth Judicial District Judge Robert Newsom in Mount Vernon Friday, April 1.
“The case was a difficult one. We were fearful of the potential for his community support to sway any jury we seated,” stated DA Braddy. “These three young men were vilified and that attitude was pervasive throughout the community of Winnsboro.”
He plead guilty to one count each of sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child. The pleas were made in a bargain agreement to dismiss 21 other charges against Mr. Bramlett involving three former students.
The plea bargain resulted in Mr. Bramlett’s voluntary surrender of his teaching license with the Texas Education Agency, a 30 day sentence in the Franklin County Jail, and placement on “deferred probation” for 10 years in each case.
Under the local district’s sex offender program, he will be required to undergo a rehabilitation program calling for regular polygraph exams, testing and is forbidden to have direct contact with anyone under the age of 17 other than his biological children; that too must be in the presence of another adult.
