Mount Vernon Optic-Herald

Lt. Col. Fred Owens, formerly of Mount Vernon, is one of 39 Army Reserve Soldiers departing to Afghanistan that the 412th Theater Engineer Command will honor with a Mobilization Farewell Ceremony in Vicksburg, Miss., Thursday, April 14. Lt. Col. Owens attended Mount Vernon Schools through the 11th grade. He graduated early and joined the U.S. Army in 1975. The following day, April 15,  the Reserve Soldiers will leave the 412th TEC headquarters for Fort Benning, at 7 a.m. before heading to Afghanistan.
