Workers begin their ascent to the top of the water tower on Monday. There will soon be a new sight hovering above the city of Mount Vernon. The downtown water tower is receiving a face lift.
Workers began work on the interior of the tower. The water was drained and sandblasting is currently underway. They will apply two coats of paint, disinfect the tank, and then refill it with water according to Ross Smith, a project engineer with USC. After the repair work is completed, the tower will receive a new paint job, inside and outside. For more information, see the June 9 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
