City of Mount Vernon public works director dismissed

Print

City of Mount Vernon Public Works Director Andy Trampus was dismissed from his position after instructing a city crew to work on private property in the 900 block of S. Kaufman St. “I just fired him,” were the first words spoken by City Secretary Tina Rose when the Optic-Herald called the city’s offices on Thursday, June 9 before the reason for the call could be explained.
The Optic had received a call from a concerned citizen about city employees working on private property in the 900 block of S. Kaufman St. When the Optic’s editor arrived and took photographs, the workers reported having hauled five truck loads of brush and tree limbs from the property. For more details on the incident, see the June 16 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

The city was asked what could be done with tree limbs that needed to be removed from the property. It was explained to place the tree limbs on the curb. It was reported that there were trees falling into the property from the land behind property. After the report the city came out and took pictures and then was asked what could be done because it was alot of overgrown trees falling over that were very large. It was asked if limbs could be cut down and it would be picked up in about two weeks. It took much longer and the trees were dried up and becoming a fire hazard, they latter came over and removerd the limds so that they would not be on the street because of the large quantity. Prior limbs were cut down into 36in limbs but remained on the street until dried and dangerous. This man tried to keep the city area neat and help citizen get the dried brush from off the road of Mt Vernon and was fired. Can someone explain this.

I have reported that children are playing in the overgrown properties of 707-717 Leftwich. The property has trees falling into other properties and has alot of dried grasses, bushes and trees. I have killed 3 snakes coming from this property as well. The worst problem of all is the moles which travel the length of the property and has become so bad that the earth is caving in prome all of the tunnels leading into our yards. The problem is growing every moment. Has the owners been noticefied of the growing damage to property because of the overgrowth?
