Sludge concerns should be directed to state agency

Print

Citizen concerns over the recent announcement of a pending “Beneficial Land Use Permit” should be addressed to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Franklin County Judge Paul Lovier reported that county offices were being inundated with phone calls from citizens. “They all want us to do something about the proposed sludge dumping [in rural Franklin County], but it is the  citizen who must do it,” Judge Lovier said.
Either a legislator, local area state representative or state senator, must request a hearing on the permit, or enough letters from local residents must be received by the TCEQ to “indicate adequate interest in having a public meeting.” For more information see the June 23 Edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
