The fire which burned on both Thursday and Friday, Aug. 4 and 5 is being called the Midway Cemetery Fire.
The fire was first reported to the Talco Volunteer Fire Department whose members quickly contacted the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday. It was spotted south of the cemetery on CR NE2110 near Midway Cemetery.
“I got home around 1:30 p.m. and smelled something, but I could not see anything,” Jean Stockton, who lives on CR NE2110, said. “The next thing I knew, I heard the fire trucks coming down the road.” For more information, see the Aug. 11 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
