City waste water plant break down causes compliance issues

Print

A break down of the aerators at the City of Mount Vernon’s Waste Water Treatment facility has caused the plant to come under state scrutiny. Recurrent breakdowns of the aerators affected the ammonia nitrogen daily average between the end of January and month of February. Subsequent failures caused other monitored levels to fall out of compliance in April and May of this year A letter from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality dated July 14 outlined the alleged violations and compliance issues. See the Aug. 11 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for more details.
