Flames leap high above a field of pine trees off FM 3357 and CR SW3430.
Arson is believed to be the cause of the weekend wildfire that destroyed a home, shop, outbuilding, several vehicles and about 350 acres of trees and grass. The fire was first reported at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12 on CR SE3430, just off FM 3357 (Clopton Road). That area is believed to be where the blaze started, according to investigators with the Texas Forest Service.
A second fire, about half a mile away, was spotted within 15 minutes of the first. For more details about the fire, see the Aug. 18 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
