A public hearing is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at Mount Vernon City Hall. The hearing is to determine whether or not the city will use about $50,000 to match a Texas Capital Fund Main Street program to have a chance of obtaining $150,000 grant. This is a grant that is made available only to Main Street cities, notes Main St. Coordinator Teresia Wims. That $200,000 total will be used to fund renovations to the sidewalks, lighting and access ramps on the south side of the square. See the Sept. 22 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for details.
