The Franklin County Water District approved an easement for the TransCanada Keystone Pipeline, LP during their September meeting.
The easement will cross 166 feet of a 450 acre tract at the far west end of Lake Cypress Springs. The company is laying a 36 inch steel pipe from Alberta, Canada to Houston, Texas.
The pipeline has become controversial across much of northeast Texas over the past year. Citizens and groups have voiced concerns over the potential for contamination of both surface land and drinking water. The pipeline will carry what is referred to as “tar sands,” crude oil to be processed at facilities near the Gulf Coast. No one spoke against the proposal at the meeting.
