The Texas Department of Public Safety, DPS, recently announced plans to offer Citizens Academy Class 001, beginning September 4, 2012. The 10-week academy will introduce students to the many programs and services provided by DPS and will engage them through interactive education during weekly meetings every Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For more information, see the Aug. 9 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
