Petitions to support limited alcohol sales within the City of Mount Vernon were delivered to City Secretary Tina Rose late last week. A group of citizens formed the Mount Vernon Committee for Economic Growth and asked City of Mount Vernon registered voters to sign two petitions calling for an election in May 2013.  See the Jan. 17 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for the rest of the story.
