Local cities are preparing for election day on Saturday, May 9. Polls will open at 7 a.m. and remain open until 7 p.m. that evening. The City of Mount Vernon had 111 early voters. Only one ballot was requested by mail and it had not been returned as of press time on Tuesday, May 5.
There are five people seeking three seats on the council. The list of candidates includes incumbents Darlene Hatcher and Nathan Reves and challengers Libby Milton, Jim Taggart, and Lynn Pennington. For more information, see the May 7 edition of the Optic-Herald.
