An estimated 2,000 people attended the second annual KiteFest event at the Franklin County Airport on Saturday, March 16.
Attendance was double the number noted the previous year.
“Lots of people from the DFW area attended as well as those from surrounding counties, Arkansas, and a family from Missouri stopped when they saw the kites as they were passing by,” event organizer Betty Crane said.
The Whatakite group flew their Batman, Robin, Penguin, and Petey the Centipede kites on the north end of the airport. Barry and Karen Ogletree brought their large kites to help draw visitors to the Friends of the Library’s annual fund raising event. See the March 21 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for more coverage of the event.
