Construction of the new Mount Vernon Elementary School is progressing well. The slab for the gym portion of the building was completed this week. The walls will soon be erected. Construction of the campus is planned to be completed prior to the beginning of school in 2010.

Corey Kuykendall, a student in Cindy Maxton’s kindergarten class at Mount Vernon Elementary School, was one of the few students who was not happy about the first day of school. Mrs. Maxton gave him a hug and assured him that he would have lots of fun at kindergarten.
Linda Edmondson, Scholarship Chairman of The Republican Women of Northeast Texas presents a $500 check to Cody Shea Poe of Mount Vernon High School. Mr. Poe was one of the winners of the Four county essay contest entitled “Why I am a conservative”.
The Adult Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College will offer free general education development, GED, classes at the Franklin County Library and English as a second language, ESL, classes at Mount Vernon Intermediate School in room 501.
