Mount Vernon ISD 2009 seniors celebrate their graduation with the traditional hat toss at the end of commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 30. A total of 113 students received their diplomas during the event.
Tom Craig, son of Bill and Nancy Craig of Mount Vernon, graduated from the University of Texas - Dallas on May 15 with a bachelor of science in business administration.
Kaitlyn Hancock will graduate as the valedictorian of the junior high class at Sulphur Bluff Junior High this year. She has a grade point average of 4.7385. Danielle Anderson is the salutatorian of the class with a grade point average of 4.4538. Commencement ceremonies will be Friday, June 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium.
Gabriel Cainan Wood, age 23 of Mount Vernon, graduated from Officer Candidate School for the U. S. Navy in Newport, R.I., on Friday, April 17. He was appointed to rank of Ensign upon graduation of OCS and he will be stationed in Pensacola, Fla., for flight training to be a Navy Jet Pilot.
