The Optic-Herald is compiling a comprehensive list of all students at Mount Vernon high school who have received scholarships this year.  The list will be published in the Graduation Edition on May 28.  Any parent or student with information about a scholarship awarded outside of the school should contact Marie Dacus at 903-537-2228 or e-mail marie(at)mt-vernon.com with the additional scholarship information. All contacts should be made no later than 5 p.m. Monday, May 25 for publication in the May 28 edition of the paper.

Saltillo ISD’s  Kindergarten Round-Up for the 2009-2010 school year is set to begin Monday, May 25. Parents can visit the school’s administration office from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily for registration. See the May 21 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.

The Mount Vernon High School Jazz Band will perform their end-of-the-year concert Friday, May 22 at the Texas Barbeque Corral. The event will begin at 5 p.m. and will include swing music, Latin jazz and maybe even a Polka. The community is encouraged to attend the event. The concert will give the group a chance to showcase their year in review.

Shelby Zinn, daughter of Robert and Jamie Zinn, received the John Phillips Sousa Award at the annual Band Banquet. The banquet was Thursday, May 14 in the Mount Vernon School Cafeteria.See the May 21 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.
