One act play prepares for public performance, district competition

One act play prepares for public performance, district competition

Cast members rehearse a fight scene in preparation for their performance. The members of the Mount Vernon One Act Play, Of Mice and Men, will perform for the public at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22 in the school auditorium in preparation for the district contest which will be Wednesday, March 25 at Texarkana College.See the March 19 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.

 

2009 Nominations sought for School League of Honor

Nominations are being sought for the 2009 Franklin County Schools League of Honor. This is the seventh year for the program, which honors outstanding graduates and employees of the Franklin County Schools in a “League of Honor.” Nomination forms are available on the school website at www.mtvernonisd.com, or by calling Tim Evans at 903-537-2266, ext. 1216.See the March 12 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.

Seventy-nine set to exhibit at project show

Seventy-nine students who are members of the Mount Vernon FFA, Mount Vernon Junior FFA, Saltillo FFA, Saltillo Junior FFA and Mount Vernon and Saltillo 4-H organizations have signed up to exhibit goats, steers, dairy heifers, and broilers at this year’s project show and auction on Saturday, March 28. Kaylee Crabtree exhibits the proper way to safely exit a bus during an emergency. The procedure is explained as part of a bus evacuation drill that is performed twice a year at Mount Vernon ISD.

Colorguard advances to national competition

Colorguard advances to national competition

The Mount Vernon High School Colorguard and Winterguard teams were inducted into the Winner’s Circle, and the Colorguard team will advance to national competition in Fort Worth on March 20-21 after competing in the  Marching Auxiliaries Northeast Texas Regional Dance and Flag Competition at John Tyler High School on Feb. 28.See the March 12 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.
