Intermediate school named Distinguished Campus

The Mount Vernon Intermediate School was a named a “Distinguished Performance School” by the Texas Education Agency, (TEA), and Title 1, Part A of the No Child Left Behind for 2008-09. See the Feb. 19 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.

 

Registration open for April 4 ACT Test

The next ACT achievement test will be administered on April 4, 2009. Students who wish to take the college admission and placement exam must register by Feb. 27, 2009. See the Feb. 19 edition of the Optic-Herald for all the details.

Tickets available for 2009 Rotary Bingo

Tickets for the annual Rotary Bingo for Scholarships are are now available, according to Rotary president Virgil Jones. Due to limited seating, only 525 tickets will be sold to the Saturday, Feb. 28 event. Cost of the tickets is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12 years of age.

Jill Copeland was finalist for Person of the Year award

Jill Copeland of Mount Vernon, Campus Technology Specialist at Vivian Fowler Elementary School in Mount Pleasant, was named one of three finalists for the Texas Computer Education Association Technical Support Person of the Year.
