The new lights at the softball and baseball fields at Mount Vernon ISD were installed Friday, Feb. 6. Members of the Mount Vernon School Board approved the purchase and installation of lights for both the baseball and softball fields late last year. The contract was awarded to Tech Line from Paris for a total of $165,800.
Amanda Clay of Mount Vernon was named to the President’s List at Texas A&M University - Commerce for the fall 2008 semester.
The Board of Trustees for the Mount Vernon Schools moved closer to making the new elementary school a reality by authorizing the issuance of the $20.5 million in bonds at their regular monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 9.

Tucker Gatlin will compete in the state American Legion Oratorical Contest in Kerrville, Tex., on Monday, Feb. 16. Mr. Gatlin competed in the district and regional contest earlier this year and advanced to the state contest. He is representing the local American Legion Post 243.
Emily White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timmy White of Saltillo, was crowned Homecoming Queen 2009 at Saltillo ISD during homecoming ceremonies at the school on Friday, Jan. 30.
