Rains will not reign over new elementary building

E-mail Print

In an unusual move during a special called meeting on Thursday, June 26, the members of the Mount Vernon School Board created more openings than they filled concerning leadership roles. The board created a new administrative position called Director of Student/Staff Support Services and unanimously named David Rains, former elementary principal, to fill the position. Kelly Baird, the current junior high principal, was reassigned to be the high school principal, and Ronny Alsup, assistant high school principal. The board also voted to increase stipends for teachers involved in both academic and athletic extracurricular activities by approximately $45,000 per year. See the July 2 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.
