The annual Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally in downtown Mount Vernon is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6.
Organizers for the event hope that because it is a holiday, more people will have time to particiapte in this year’s event. It was moved a bit later in the evening to allow for cooler temperatures. Participants are encouraged to line up along Hill St. and Lake St. at 5 p.m. Monday evening to be ready for the parade. All participants should line up facing south toward Main St. The parade will exit Hill St., then travel east down Main Street to the square. The pep rally will be conducted immediately following the parade. Anyone interested in entering the parade should contact the high school cheerleader sponsor, Jennifer Bailey, at 903-537-3267, ext. 4303, and leave a message.
A $50 first place prize will be given to the best decorated float in the event by the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
