Margaret and Walter Sears will be inducted into the Mount Vernon School District’s League of Honor during halftime ceremonies of the Mount Vernon vs. Cooper football game on Friday, Sept. 10. Six people will be added to the membership during the event.
Walter and Margaret Sears moved to Mount Vernon in 1971 when he was hired as the superintendent of Mount Vernon ISD. Mr. Sears graduated from Whitt High School and from North Texas State University with a bachelor of business administration majoring in marketing and finance. He has a master of education and has completed over 30 hours of doctoral work. He served as superintendent for Mount Vernon for 20 years. During his tenure, Mount Vernon schools grew and became a vital part of the town and community. The school became a symbol of what Mount Vernon stood for and was used a selling point for newcomers settling in the area. See the Sept. 2 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for a feature article about Mr. and Mrs. Sears.
