A recent survey of district trends in superintendents’ salaries and benefits was released by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) and Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). When the Mount Vernon school board hired Superintendent John Kaufman in December 2009, they negotiated a three year contract with a salary of $90,000 plus $3,600 per year for expenses such as cell phones and civic activities. The average superintendent salary for districts with 1,000 to 1,599 students is $109,139. For more information, see the Dec. 16 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
