August Whitaker’s Spring Break started with a road trip to Austin. She did not go to enjoy the tourist sites, but to lend her voice to help teachers across the state. Mrs. Whitaker joined an estimated 15,000 teachers, parents and students who rallied at the Capitol in Austin on Saturday, March 12. They were there to protest against deep education budget cuts the Texas Legislature is considering. For more information, see the March 17 edition of the Optic-Herald.
