TAKS scores better than those statewide

Print

Mount Vernon ISD released the results of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills tests (TAKS) during the school board meeting on Monday, July 11. In 24 of the 27 tests taken, MVISD students scored better than or equal to their counterparts across the state. This is the last year that students will take the TAKS test. It will be replaced next year with the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) for grades 3 through 8 and End of Course exams for ninth grade students. Students entering grades 10 and 11 will continue with TAKS testing through graduation. “These TAKS scores represent every single, solitary child who took a test at MVISD,” Carolyn Newsom told members of the school board. “If they took the regular TAKS test or the accomodated, modified or alternate tests, they are included in these results.” Accountability ratings for each campus and the district will be released in October. For more information, see the July 14 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
