The Mount Vernon Independent School District retained its Recognized rating based on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills tests (TAKS) for 2011 from the Texas Education Agency.
“The numbers looked great, but the increased standards kept several of our campuses from receiving higher ratings,” Superintendent John Kaufman said.
More rigorous standards were in place for the TAKS testing this year, and the controversial Texas Projection Measure (TPM), which attempted to measure future student performance growth on state tests, was eliminated. Many districts and campuses experienced a drop in state accountability ratings, even though their students may have scored as well or better on state assessments.
