Each individual campus at Mount Vernon ISD met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), but the district as a whole missed meeting AYP for the fourth consecutive year,
according to Carolyn Newsom, District Curriculum Director. This moves MVISD down to Stage 3 on the improvement scale.
“We are unsure what the ramifications of this rating are, because they have not been outlined,” Mrs. Newsom said.
According to Superintendent John Kaufman, representatives from Region VIII will attend a briefing on Sept. 21 to learn about requirements for schools at Stage 3. For more details, see the Sept. 15 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
