Lady Tigers are 3-3 in tournament
Members of the Mount Vernon High School Lady Tigers basketball team played in the Mid-America Youth Basketball (MAYB) tournament last weekend in Denton and finished with a 3-3 record.
Youth Football coaches meeting set
The coaches for the 2009 Youth Football Association will have a meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 26 at the Franklin County Courthouse Annex, north of the Sheriff’s Office. The coaches will be discussing the upcoming try-out event set for Saturday, Aug. 8. See the July 23 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.
Kids Under Construction cheer
The young girls from Kid’s Under Construction spent Monday, July 6 learning the hard work that goes into being a Mount Vernon High School Tiger Cheerleader. The group learned cheers, chants, and dances along side the cheerleaders during their summer practice.
Heat does not faze Derby competitors
The competitors in the third annual Turtle Derby races did not seem fazed by the high heat and humidity on Saturday, July 11.
