
The Franklin County Sweetees All Star team competed in the Sweetees Allstar tournament on June 12-13 in Sulphur Springs and won first place. Six teams were entered in the tournament. The Mount Vernon girls won all five games.




The Franklin County Sweetees All Star team competed in the Sweetees Allstar tournament on June 12-13 in Sulphur Springs and won first place. Six teams were entered in the tournament. The Mount Vernon girls won all five games.

A truckload of trophies were presented during closing ceremonies for the 2009 season of the Franklin County Baseball / Softball Association to all participants on Thursday, June 11 at Lindley Field. Division championship and sportsmanship trophies were also distributed. See the June 18 edition of the Optic-Herald for more information.
Aaron Walker of Mount Vernon won first place in the Media Bass Tournament at Lake Fork earlier this month. He was first place with the heaviest stringer of fish weighing 15.37 pounds. He received $1,450 for the honor. He also received the award and $420 for the biggest bass of the tournament. The fish weighed 8.29 pounds. (Optic Photo ’09)
Six members of the Tiger baseball team were named to the 16-3A All-District baseball team by district coaches earlier this month. Neal Blevins was named first team first base.
