The Mount Vernon Lady Tigers will faced the Lucas Lovejoy Leopards in the area round of competition on Friday and Saturday, May 15-16 in a best two-out-of-three series. The Lady Tigers won the first game 4-1 and the second game 6-4. The Lady Tigers are the area champions.
The Nets, a basketball team composed of Saltillo eighth grade girls, won the Canton Eaglette Classic Tournament April 25-26. They won by defeating the Winnsboro seventh/eighth grade team in the championship game 31-27. The Saltillo girls also defeated Edgewood 44-10, Bullard 38-14, and Brownsboro 37-14 before advancing to the championship game. Members of the team are Karli Brewer, Chelsea Moore, Victoria Stretcher, Luz Nunez, Tiffney Goldsmith and Courtney Goldsmith. They are coached by Barry Brewer.
Cristy and Kelsey Whitlock and were named the Co-Outstanding Female Athletes and Kaitlyn Bohlken received the Fighting Tiger Award for 2008-2009 at the All Sports Banquet for Mount Vernon High school on Monday, May 4 at the school cafeteria.
