A walk-off home run by Mount Vernon’s Jakayla Rogers in the bottom of the ninth inning last Tuesday had a triple effect. It added three runs to the scoreboard, declared the defeat of the New Boston Lady Lions, and vaulted the Lady Tigers into first place in District 16-3A competition.

Austin Wight catches the ball for the Tigers as a New Boston player swings through a strike. The Mount Vernon Tigers defeated Liberty Eylau 16-5 on Monday, April 20, and fell 6-5 to New Boston on Tuesday, April 14. The Tigers are 4-3 in district going into the final week of District 16-3A competition. See the April 23 edition of the Optic-Herald for game details.
