Garry Davison, head girls basketball coach at Saltillo High School, was named the top girls coach in Class 1A Division II for the state by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
The award usually goes to the coach who’s team won state or at least made the Final Four in Austin. Davison’s team went 32-2, losing at regional after being ranked No. 1 in the state most of the year.
A peer has to make the nomination and the coaches belonging to TABC vote. After being nominated, his name was put up in front of a 12-person committee who chose the statewide award. For more information, see the June 2 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald
