Flag pole dedicated to veterans on Memorial Day

The flag pole dedicated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Memorial Day was an Eagle Scout project by Andrew Babb.A dedication ceremony for a newly erected flag pole at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church was conducted on Monday afternoon, Memorial Day. The new pole, complete with lighting, is located east of the church buildings and south of the sign that fronts Hwy. 37 near the Rutherford St. intersection.

Design an ad winners

Front row, Calie Logan earned first place, Jacque Riley was second, Kendall Finley, inset, was third. Those receiving honorable mention were Isai Esquitin, Dylan Kirkman, Elexis Lunsford, Gabriela Lopez, Acacia Pace, and Zoe Breeden.Winners in the 22nd annual Design An Ad program received trophies and ribbons at Mount Vernon Elementary School last week. The topic was “Read Read Read.”

Ramsay remembers service to veterans and their families

Baumgarder, Cathy Small, and Marcus Hollingsworth posed for a photo following the Memorial Day service at the Mount Vernon Cemetery.A Memorial Day observance was conducted on Monday, May 27 in formal ceremonies at the arched entrance to the Mount Vernon City Cemetery. Jordan Ramsay, a former U.S. Army Sgt., was the featured speaker.

Wentworth on trek from Sea to Shining Sea

Diane Newsom, Carl Wentworth, and J.D. Baumgardner in front of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.Carl Wentworth is on a journey from “Sea to Shining Sea” to raise awareness for veterans and to support “the heroes who fight for our freedom”. His walk brought him through Mount Vernon this week.
