Rotary Scholarship dinner set, proceeds to support students

The Mount Vernon Rotary Club’s annual scholarship dinner will be Saturday, November 5. Proceeds from the event will be utilized to support the club’s motivational scholarship program.

Trick-or-Treat on the square Monday

The 26th annual Trick-or-Treat Around the Square will be Monday, October 31 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. There will be candy stops at the businesses around the square and numerous trick-or-trunk stops around the plaza.

Additonal sewerline work possible with available funds

Additional sewerline work of up to $1.1 million may be possible with current available funding, Chris Aylor with KSA Engineers, Inc. stated at the monthly meeting of the Mount Vernon City Council last week.

Youth rodeo at arena Saturday

Members of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Posse will be hosts for the first of five youth rodeos this Saturday, October 29. The first event will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Sheriff’s Posse Arena on Hwy. 115.

HOT board allocations to be challenged

A challenge of the announced outcome of the Franklin County Hotel Occupancy Tax Advisory Committee allocations hearings and recommendations is expected at the Monday, October 24 meeting of the Franklin County Commissioners Court.

Banquet to raise scholarships funds set

The annual Rotary Club banquet to honor Rotarians, their accomplishments during the past year, and to raise funds to support their motivational scholarship has been set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 5.
