Chili eaters wanted for cook off

A chili cook-off will be conducted on Saturday, April 19 along Kaufman Street between Main and Scott streets. Bowls of chili will be available for sale to the public beginning at noon.

Rich wins at Men of Courage Car Show

 Randy Rich’s and his 1956 Ford ThunderbirdThe lustrous peacock blue of Randy Rich’s 1956 Ford Thunderbird caught the judge’s eye and won the Best of Show award at the Men of Courage Car Show on Saturday, April 12 at the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon.

Easter in the Park is Saturday, April 19

The annual Easter in the Park event is Saturday, April 19, beginning at 10 a.m. at Little Creek Park. The event will kick-off with the Easter Parade, then  games and activities and sack races.

A special luminaria ceremony during the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Franklin County remembers those lost to cancer and honors those who have battled and won.

An anonymous donor provided a new stove for the kitchen at the Mount Vernon Head Start program center. Prairies, Pineywoods BirdFest coming to Franklin County

The Prairies and Pineywoods BirdFest is coming to Franklin County. This inaugural event, sponsored by the Franklin County Historical Association (FCHA), has been set for the first weekend in May.

Certified food manager course offered locally

The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will be offering a Certified Food Manager Course in Franklin County at the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. The two-day course will be Tuesday and Wednesday, April 22-23.
