Petting zoo

Summer Reading Program begins Tuesday, June 17

The Summer Reading Program at the Franklin County Library will begin Tuesday, June 17 and continue each Tuesday through Tuesday, July 22. The program targets children from ages four to 12 and 13 to 17. For a listing of session times, see the June 12  edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Creek of Dreams tourney June 13-14

The Creek of Dreams Ragball Tournament is this weekend Friday and Saturday, June 13-14 at Little Creek Park. The event will kick off around 5:45 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Fountain-Ellis honored

Fay Fountain-EllisFay Fountain-Ellis was recently honored as the eldest member of the Mt. Zion Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. She was born Nov. 26, 1928 to Eugene Fountain and Stella Mae Templeton Fountain.

Boating safety video released

Second Saturday is this weekend

The Second Saturday event will be this weekend, June 14. This month’s event will feature materials artist  Michelle Chitsey and live music from musician Mathew Tuttle.

Donations sought for fireworks show on Lake Cypress Springs

Donations are being sought to fund the annual Independence Day weekend fire works show on Lake Cypress Springs. All contributions over the cost of the materials for the show are donated to the South Franklin Volunteer Fire Department.
