CountryFest booth reservations open

Booth space for 2013 CountryFest is open to all, with reservations being accepted on a first come, first served basis. Registration forms and payment must be received no later than Friday, Sept. 20 to avoid a $15 late fee. For more information, see the Sept. 5 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Posse event provides plenty of competition and entertainment

Ronny and Katrina Easterling served as the Grand Marshalls for the Rodeo Parade in downtown Mount Vernon on Saturday, Aug. 31.  Interact students Chassity Morgan and Abby Haller carried their banner.The Franklin County Rodeo was deemed a success by the sponsoring Sheriff’s Posse with more than 2,000 people attending each of the two nights to watch the more than 100 cowboys and cowgirls compete at the annual Labor Day Rodeo.

Benefit set for Greg Carr, auction items sought

A benefit for Greg Carr has been organized for Saturday, September 28 at 4 p.m. at the Hagansport Community Center. Items are now being sought to be offered in an auction the night of the event. United Way fish-fry Saturday, August 31

The United Way of Franklin County will provide an all-you-can-eat catfish dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge on Saturday, Aug. 31. The lodge is located on the south service road of I-30.

Closing downtown street proposed in grant

A gathering place and open market area away from the central plaza is being proposed in a grant application being made to the Texas State Historic Commission.

Festival adds spice to rodeo

A parade, bean feed, mini-concert and a dance will add spice to a fun packed rodeo weekend in Franklin County. The festivities will begin Saturday, Aug. 31 with a parade through downtown at 11 a.m.
