Lions organize

Entries being sought for Hay Show October 5

Entries are being accepted for the 2013 Mount Vernon / Saltillo Young Farmers Association Hay Show scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5. Entries for the show are $10 each with a deadline of Friday, September 20. See the September 5 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Cora Peckham takes a big bite of her waffle at the Huddle House’s customer appreciation event Cora Peckham takes a big bite of her waffle at the Huddle House’s customer appreciation event on Saturday, September 7.  The restaurant served 377 guests during the three hour event with 210 opting for the 50 cent waffles and 113 requested the $2.99 cheeseburger meal. The company gave away door prizes and provided a bounce house.

CountryFest booth reservations open

Booth space for 2013 CountryFest is open to all, with reservations being accepted on a first come, first served basis. Posse event provides plenty of competition and entertainment

Ronny and Katrina Easterling served as the Grand Marshalls for the Rodeo Parade in downtown Mount Vernon on Saturday, Aug. 31.  Interact students Chassity Morgan and Abby Haller carried their banner.The Franklin County Rodeo was deemed a success by the sponsoring Sheriff’s Posse with more than 2,000 people attending each of the two nights to watch the more than 100 cowboys and cowgirls compete at the annual Labor Day Rodeo.
