Blood drive Saturday, August 17

Chamber royalty to be chosen in a two night event

A total of 36 girls in Kindergarten through sixth grade will compete for four titles.The 45th annual Miss Mount Vernon Scholarship Pageant has been made into a two night event this year to accommodate a larger audience.

Local scholarship pageant expands event to Friday and Saturday nights

Contestants in the Miss Mount Vernon and Junior Miss Mount Vernon competitions.The 45th annual Miss Mount Vernon Scholarship Pageant has attracted 15 contestants to vie for two different titles in pageant competition on  Saturday, Aug. 17, and 36 contestants for four different titles on Friday, Aug. 16.

Five record lows recorded, below average rainfall reported

Five record low temperatures and below average rainfall were recorded in July 2013 in Franklin County.  The new records were set the first week of the month with lows in the 60s.
