Local scholarship pageant expands event to Friday and Saturday nights

Contestants in the Miss Mount Vernon and Junior Miss Mount Vernon competitions.The 45th annual Miss Mount Vernon Scholarship Pageant has attracted 15 contestants to vie for two different titles in pageant competition on  Saturday, Aug. 17, and 36 contestants for four different titles on Friday, Aug. 16.

Vendors were selling a variety of fruits and vegetables, plants, and eggs on the downtown square last Saturday. The market is open daily from 8 a.m. to sell out.

Rural Beauty Spot

Franklin County Chamber of Commerce’s Rural Beauty Spot for the month of July. The home of Steve and Patsy Wright in the Sulphur Bluff area was chosen as the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce’s Rural Beauty Spot for the month of July.

Chamber royalty to be chosen in a two night event

A total of 36 girls in Kindergarten through sixth grade will compete for four titles.The 45th annual Miss Mount Vernon Scholarship Pageant has been made into a two night event this year to accommodate a larger audience.

Motorcycle ride planned to gather school supplies

The American Legion Post 243 Riders Club in a partnership with the American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring a “Riders Ride for Back to School” event on Saturday, Aug. 17.

Five record lows recorded, below average rainfall reported

Five record low temperatures and below average rainfall were recorded in July 2013 in Franklin County.  The new records were set the first week of the month with lows in the 60s.

Tickets go on sale Monday, pageant attracts 53 contestants

The 45th annual Miss Mount Vernon Scholarship Pageant has been set for Friday, Aug. 16 for K-sixth grade girls, and Saturday, Aug. 17 for seventh through 12th grade girls.
