Mount Vernon FFA to display five projects at Houston show

Mount Vernon FFAMembers of the Mount Vernon FFA have been working the past few months to prepare their projects to exhibit at the Houston Ag Mechanics Show March 21-23. This year, the group plans to enter five projects at the show.

Veteran interviews planned at library

The local library needs a few good men, and women, to step forward and be heard. The staff at the Franklin County Library will be conducting interviews with American Service Veterans beginning in March 2014.

Contractor registration proposed

A proposal to have contractors working on Franklin County Water District lease-back property register with the district is up for further discussion at next week’s board meeting.

Blind Date with a book a hit

The Franklin County Library’s ‘Blind Date with a Book’ program has been very popular with local readers. “We started out with 45 wrapped books on February 1, and in just one week 28 had been checked out,” Library Director Lisa Lawrance said.

Aden, Currys, Monroe, Reeves honored for support

Rev. Dr. LaVelle Hendricks, Susan Reeves, Barbara Monroe, Libby Aden, and Verna and Bishop CurryBlack History Month was celebrated highlighting the Golden Jubilee of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The sponsoring Black Onyx Club honored five people for their service and support of the black community in Franklin County.

Bingo set to begin on Valentines

The Hope for Housing organization, a charitable group based in Pittsburg, will open Charitable Bingo on Friday, February 14. The door will open at 4 p.m. and Bingo will start at 6 p.m.

Library garden series continues

The Franklin County Library will continue its gardening series with a program about storing seeds and starting plants indoors on Tuesday, February 18 and 25 at 5:30 p.m.

Canoeing fun for Scouts

Beavers Bend State Park and Broken Bow Lake was the site of a long weekend camping trip with canoeingBeavers Bend State Park and Broken Bow Lake was the site of a long weekend camping trip with canoeing for members of Mount Vernon Boy Scout Troop 271. Thirteen boys and six adult leaders took the trip.
