City to begin disinfecting water lines Monday

The City of Mount Vernon will soon perform a routine chlorine burnout of the water system, which will help prevent long term discoloration, odor and taste in the city’s water.

Goal of $40,000 set, funding allocations made for 2017

The United Way of Franklin County set a goal of $40,000 for its 2016 campaign that will be raised in 2017. The goal was set in conjunction with the approval of 12 agencies to receive funding.

Tower receives Quilt of Valor

R.Q. Tower, a resident of Franklin County, was recently presented a Quilt of Valor from the Farmersville Quilt Quild R.Q. Sales Tax Holiday August 5-7

This year’s sales tax holiday is scheduled for Friday through Sunday, August 5-7, when shoppers can save money on certain items priced for less than $100, reminds Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar.

The 48th annual Miss Mount Vernon Scholarship Pageant has attracted 52 contestants, according to Heather Bales, event coordinator for the sponsoring Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.
