Food baskets to be distributed Saturday

Christmas For All Food Baskets will be distributed to qualified applicants between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, December 13. This year, more than 250 families are scheduled to receive help through the program.

Large crowd cheers for annual Christmas Parade

Children with red reindeer noses rode on the First National Bank float.The Christmas season began with lots of holiday spirit as more than 30 entries in the Christmas Parade wound their was through downtown Mount Vernon on Saturday, December 6.

Chili chow hounds wanted for Saturday’s cook off

A chili cook-off will be conducted on Saturday, December 6 along Kaufman between Main and Scott streets, and lots of chili chow hounds will be needed to consume the gallons of chili that will be prepared.

The route for the 74th annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 6 was announced this week.The parade will get underway at 11 a.m.

After a few bumps, the pair began gliding around on the synthetic ice.

Candlelight service set at Harvey Funeral Home

A Tree of Remembrance and Candlelight Service will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 11 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home. Dr. Jack Wallace, Brother Pepper Puryear, and Brother Gerald Hood will provide messages of hope during the service.
