Festival celebrating 39th year Saturday, October 12

The annual Key Club CountryFest in Mount Vernon will celebrate its 39th year Saturday, October 12. More than 100 vendors will be set up around the plaza from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Halloween contests, events announced

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce will conduct their Merchant’s Halloween Dress-up and Window Decoration contests as well as the 2013 Trick-or-Treat Around the Square on Thursday, October 31.

Annual Fall clean-up efforts begin Saturday, October 5

Fall clean-up efforts have been set to begin this Saturday in both Franklin County and the City of Mount Vernon. The combined effort is to urge citizens to clean both public and private areas in preparation for the influx of visitors to the community.

Brooks returns as nurse practitioner

Stew Contest deadline Wednesday, October 9

The deadline to enter the 29th annual CountryFest Stew Cook-off is Wednesday, October 9. Thus far, nine entries have been registered for the contest. Cooking teams are urged to enter the event. Campsites are assigned on a first come, first served basis.

Jeff Jacobs to be speaker at Fields of Faith Wednesday

Jeff Jacobs will be the guest speaker at the eighth annual “Fields of Faith” event at Don Meredith Stadium on Wednesday, October 9. Refreshments will be served starting at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program at 7 p.m.

Local genealogy office is Family History Center

The Franklin County Genealogy Society is now recognized as a FamilySearch Center by the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  FamilySearch Center is the umbrella term for all  branches of the organization’s  Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.
