Commissioners take no action on Purley fire department loan

The Franklin County Commissioners Court members took no action to approve the purchase of a used vehicle for the Purley Volunteer Fire Department at their meeting Monday, November 25.

State approves funds to maintain airport

Approximately $700,000 for Franklin County Airport was approved by the Texas Transportation Commission at its October meeting. The funds will be used for planned airport improvements, including  pavement improvements.

More than $23,000 raised for scholarships

The Rotary Club of Mount Vernon celebrated its 75th anniversary Saturday, November 16 with a banquet and scholarship fund raiser.The group raised more than $23,000 for their Motivational Scholarship Fund through ticket sales and both live and silent auctions.

Wilson, Lee file as Franklin County judge candidates

Variance granted for grant program house

A hardship variance was granted to construct a house with 2011-12 HOME Grant program funds. The distance from the lot line was allowed to be four feet rather than the normal 6-10 feet at 320 North Kaufman St. in Mount Vernon.

Sharp family home is total loss following early morning fire

The Sharp home on FM 71 was destroyed by fire.The home of Gabe and Mandy Sharp in the 1300 block of FM 71 W was a total loss following a fire around 6 a.m. on Saturday, November 23. Dunn, Loftis, Latortue honored by Rotary Club

Cynthia Loftis, Marie Latortue, and Saundra DunnThe Mount Vernon Rotary Club honored Saundra Dunn and Cynthia Loftis with Paul Harris Fellowship Awards and named Marie Latortue as the 2012-2013 Rotarian of the Year during their 75th anniversary banquet on Saturday, November 16. Clint Wilson convicted of murder, weapon charge, gets maximum

Application deadline Friday

The deadline to apply for assistance with gifts and clothing for children through the Christmas for All  program is Friday, November 22. Applications must be turned in at the Mount Vernon Elementary office no later than 4 p.m. that day.
