Chamber funding cut for remainder 2016

Franklin County Chamber of Commerce funding for the balance of 2016 was terminated by the Franklin County Commissioners Court in keeping with the recent discovery of the donation being in conflict with the Texas State Statutes and multiple state attorney general opinions.

Agenda changes recomended by attorney raises questions

The removal of the traditional invocation/prayer at the opening of the Franklin County Water District’s meeting agenda sparked more discussion than any of the five changes recommended in the review by the district’s attorneys during last week’s monthly meeting of the district’s board of directors.

Hopkins Co. EMS to be provider starting first of 2017

Franklin County Commissioners Court members voted unanimously to accept the proposal of Hopkins County EMS, operated by the Hopkins County Hospital District EMS, to provide ground EMS service in Franklin County beginning Jan. 1, 2017.

Ferrell recommends same tax rate for 2016-17 budget

The City of Mount Vernon is expected to keep the same property tax rate for 2016-17 as was set for the previous fiscal year as recommended by City Administrator Darrek Ferrell in their Monday night workshop session.

Taxable values up slightly for city, school

The Franklin County Appraisal District released the certified tax rolls to local taxing entities this week. The overall market value of property in Franklin County decreased slightly for Franklin County, but rose slightly within the Mount Vernon City limits and for Mount Vernon ISD.

A public forum on the conceptual structural design options for the flood issues will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 in the council chambers of the Mount Vernon City Hall.

City allocates Hotel Occupancy Tax funds

Thirty-thousand dollars in Hotel Occupancy Tax funds collected by the City of Mount Vernon were allocated to six different organizations for the 2016-17 fiscal year by the city council at their regular meeting Monday night.
