Grasshoppers are shaping up to be a problem for east Texas again this year. As a producer trying to grow hay, or cattle, grasshoppers pose a problem since it is a species that is obtaining readily available forage from your pasture.
Populations of grasshoppers are determined by the weather. High counts of grasshoppers are recorded after several years of dry weather is experienced. Warm fall months can allow females to continue laying eggs and feeding. For more information, see the June 27 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
